Coat hooks
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:33:21 PM »

Recently I purchased a victorian hall tree which is missing 3 coat hooks.  I cannot find them anywhere.  Any help would be appreciated.  Attached is a pic of one of the coat hooks still on the hall tree.  It is attached by a single bolt and is 5" long from tip of nose to base where bolt is attached.

The easiest and fastest way to have matching replacement hooks is to have them cast using one of yours as a pattern. Google "custom casting" or something like that - use the word "custom" to find a caster that will make anything you want. They shouldn't be too expensive to recast. Another option - probably cheaper but much slower is to look for the proverbial needle in the proverbial haystack - ebay would be a good place to look - search for something like "antique coat hook" or something like it, you can save your search and ebay will e-mail you when something that matches your search is listed. You can also search dealers that specialize in antique hardware. Their price will probably be higher and it's still like looking for a needle in a haystack. Lastly - you could find a full set of hooks you like on ebay, or from a dealer and replace them all with matching hooks  - antique or reproductions. Good luck w/ them.   woodwright
