Catalog isn't online yet. they have numerous lots of victorian and for the Jelliff fan a eight piece parlor
suite with 2 sofas,2 arm chairs and 4 side chairs in red fabric. I don't have any info on condition. Being A Cincinnatian I'm hoping to be first in line for this lot.

So did you get that Jelliff set?  I was at the auction today, and it went for $2,600, which I thought was a steal for an eight-piece set that seemed to be in very good shape.  Unfortunately, I don't have room for an eight-piece set in my house.

No I was unable to attend. I saw what it went for nice price. What kind of shape was the set in? If anyone out there purchased this set and wants to part with any of it please contact me. I could use a set of chairs. Sorry I missed you at Cowans I rarely miss a Auction there. Wes has a nice setup at his new place. They have a four piece set coming up in the fall.

From what I saw, it was in really good shape.  I wouldn't have chosen that fabric, but it was in good shape as well.  I did notice, however, that they had signs on the Jelliff set that instructed auction-goers not to sit on the pieces of the set, whereas no such signs were on the other furniture for sale there (e.g., the belter sofa).  So maybe it was a bit fragile structurally.  Like I said, I wish I would have had room for that set because the person who bought it for $2600 got a bargain.

Funny that you mention the fabric, I've noticed quite a few victorian pieces come thru their doors with that same red pattern. I'm thinking someone turning pieces in a popular victorian color? A nice new upholstery can cause one to miss out on condition issues, makes me look a bit harder at a piece.  I learned the hard way. I collect British sports cars as well, I found a beautiful Vanden plas, great new paint job don't you know the sub frame rusted thru and it became a parts car. One might blame the Brits but it was my fault. Live and learn

For what it's worth, the Jelliff set appeared to be in much better shape with respect to the condition of the wood than the Belter sofa as well.  The latter had more scattered nicks and chips, and one of the leaves on the crest had most of it chipped off (to the Cowan's credit, it was noted in the pre-auction item description).  Then again, structurally speaking it could have been a different story--as I said, the Jelliff set specifically instructed patrons not to sit on it, whereas the Belter had no such limitations posted.
