Posted on the Great American Auction site is an announcement for a 2-day "Estate" sale auction on Friday May 7 and Saturday May 8 at their facilities in Poughkeepsie, NY. Here a sale link: http://www.greatamericanauction.com/ Although some of the item lots listed in this sale have been offered in previous sales, there's still quite a variety and the sale is weighted towards Victorian tastes. Besides some identified Thomas Brooks pieces, there's a Wooten Patent Desk , lot 300: http://www.greatamericanauction.com/Lot0300.html ; a circa "1860" piece attributed incorrectly to R.J. Horner (who didn't open up his NYC shop until 1886) lot 100: http://www.greatamericanauction.com/lot0100.html ; several pieces attributed to Herter Bros., such as: Lot 695, a credenza with french-style painted plaques that does not look like any Herter piece I've ever seen. (maybe made by Alexander Roux?) Lot 64 which DOES very much look like a Herter Japanese-Aesthetic Movement Etegere; and lot 1033 which also looks like some of the later Herter Brothers pieces from the late 1880's to circa 1890; The sale includes some great period lighting as well as some antique firearms and swords for those who collect such things. Happy Antiquing and bidding!

They have some good stuff but I can't get past some of the attribution/style/dating/spelling mistakes.  Look at lot 695 for example:  Herter Brothers?  I think not (and not even qualified with "attributed").  Pietra Dora (spelling issue/don't see any cut and polished stones)?  Incerts (spelling)?

I think the oval elements shown in the last photo of the listing are pietra dura. (see attached)

I was wondering if that is what they were talking about, but I was leaning towards those being painted?
