Mahogany Secretary c1840, showing both New York architectural elements and Boston nuances. Secondary woods are spanish cedar which many times points towards Boston. Either way this is an incredible piece of handmade American furniture from the classical period. The veneer work is the finest we have had the pleasure of owning! Backboards & shelves are high grade mahogany veneer. Bookmatched choice mahogany throughout. The unusual deep groved 1" concave fluted posts have bookmatched veneer as well! Boxed architectural top and base (desk is in 3 sections). Three drawer base with period brass hardware flanked by columns. Top drawer has molded face and never had pulls.

Folding writing surface retains old billiard cloth with greek key design. The surface can be redone in choice of new billiard cloth free. We can also do tooled leather which would be additional fees. The writing area has 2 slots for inkwells and pen section. Above this are two blind doors with cubbies and 3 drawer interior.

The doors have stately bellflower carvings. The bookcase section has 1/4 mullions and arched top panels. The desk has been properly cleaned & french polished. An unusual item are brass escutcheons which screw into the drawer faces.
