Antiques Roadshow on PBS free ticket lottery
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:48:52 PM »

Just thought I would pass this along to the Rare Victorian crew--PBS is conducting an online ticket lottery for this summer's season of antique roadshow...If one of the shows is in your area, you might want to sign up...I know,,,some of the appraisals are a little wacky and so forth, but I still like seeing SOMETHING about antiques on TV!  LOL!!  Anyway, maybe we could turn this summer into the Rare Victorian roadshow if we all show up with all our great stuff and just overwhelm them in every region of the US!  How can they say no?  Grin  Charles.

Thanks for the heads up.  I tried to get in the lottery last year and never heard anything.  The cities listed so far are not in my vicinity for this year.  I have some items that I would like to get evaluated such as a pair of Civil War drumsticks, purportedly.  I also a  WWII image of Jews, theoretically in a camp somewhere, wearing the star badges that they were forced to have on their clothes.  Very haunting image.  Don't know if it is original or a print or what.

I don't watch much TV, but I never miss the roadshow. Cincinnati has three locals as guess experts. Wes for americana, Renee for glass & Riley for Rookwood which makes it pretty cool for me. You never do see much Victorian. I remember a pair of Belter arm chairs a few years back estimated @ 4-6K.

they didn't spend much time with them. There's some great Vic out there,it deserves more time. heck at least half the show right!

Ahh,,, well, I was lucky enough to be an insider on the production in Philly. It is a long, long day and I got to see everything that came onto the floor, which most people stand in line for a long time and bring things that aren't even antiques.
I have photos with me and the Kenos, and other experts on floor. For experts like you guys, you could submit photos to PBS in advance and they will move you right to the front of the line, although when in Philly, the age of the furniture was of great importance, because the Kenos want to play with the oldest federal pieces and create "show atmosphere" that is so important to Philly.

Amadara, how do you suggest submitting photos in advance to "get to the front"?  I have tickets to the Atlantic City Show this year in June.

John, Saw this page on the PBS site about submitting furniture pictures for this year's Roadshow. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/furniture.html - it looks like there was an April 20th deadline to submit photos.
Hopefully you've got tickets to an early admittance (before the lines grow too long) - and hopefully have a shorter wait than we had (ours were for 2 PM w/ a 5 + hrs wait) - we were @ the Hartford Conn. Show last August which airs tomorrow night (5/11/09) on PBS - but we were not filmed for the show. Maybe you'll make it on the air and can put in a plug for the RV blog.    woodwright
