Based on my experience they are a good, reputable auction house.  I purchased a Jelliff armchair there last October, and was not able to find a shipper (at a reasonable rate) who could pick up the piece until about 8 weeks after the auction.  Dargate seemed to have no problem with storing the chair until it was able to be picked up.

Shipping, a pain in the furniture world, particularly for a single piece. lately i have been using uship.com and put it out for bids. mostly small shippers with covered trailers. who do you use?

Is it just me or do they have a fair amount of non-American pieces categorized as American?

I agree with you Rare--some of the chairs shown under American furniture just scream European to me.
