I purchased this 3 piece bedroom suite about 15 years ago in Canada (Saskatchewan), and had it professionally refinished prior to delivery to my home in Medicine Hat (Alberta). I am absolutely crazy about this suite, and it STILL takes my breath away everytime I set foot in the bedroom.
I've always believed it to be an old suite, but know nothing concrete about the age or maker. The carved paw feet are identical on all three pieces, in addition to the ladies and the choice of veneers. Each of the legs has a caster.
I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions!
Thanks

Hello, and thank you!
Yes, the carvings remind me of Karpen as well. I suppose that circa 1900 is much closer to the real date of manufacture than the 1850 date supplied to me by the seller. They also told me that they had found the suite in New Orleans.
I haven't stumbled across much good Victorian furniture up here myself, but I do know that a Belter slipper chair (with grapes) was found locally by one of the refinishers about 20 years ago.
Thanks again for your kind words.
