i attended this auction online for a couple E/A pieces and was stunned to see this victorian bedroom suite go for $15,000 plus 20% buyers premium. estimate was 3-5k. is there anything special about this suite or just 2 or more bidders in lust?

I think this suite is a lot nicer than average. It is a nice design, w/ nice details and marquetry, the hanging serpentine half tester is nice and unusual, and 4 matching window valances, although not real elaborate valances. I'm always amazed at what good valances bring, often as much or more than a decent piece of furniture & it's hard to find matching sets. I think 3-5k would have been a steal, I would have guessed 8-10k. But there were obviously a couple bidders that really wanted it. I'm sure the seller was happy.  woodwright
