I was looking online for an image of the drawing room that Christian Herter decorated for J. Pierpont Morgan in the early 1880s; I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did turn up a interesting short article regarding the conservation of a gilded Herter side chair in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Preserving a Herter Brothers Side Chair.
Nice article. You probably noticed fig. 2 in the article, it showed a small part of J.P. Morgans drawing room. The picture was taken from the book "Artistic Houses 1883-84". All 203 photographs of Artistic Houses are reprinted in "Opulent Interiors of the Gilded Age" C. 1987. Paperback, large format - Fantastic book! The entire drawing room is shown on P. 146 (plate 157) - Very nice. There are 6 photos from J.P. Morgans house in the book. The book shows some of the most exuberant interiors of the period (and some great furniture also). I believe it is still in print and is readily available from many sellers (Search the web for choices) Published by Dover Publications (Mineola LI - NY).
For anyone that is not familiar w/ Dover books they reproduce many 19th century books on architecture, design, crafts, etc. among other subjects. Great books (I probably own 200+ Dover books), most are paperbacks (good quality paper & binding made in the USA) - most are under $20.00 - many are under $10.00. They also sell  "hurt" (usually minor damage) books in their book store for 1/2 the cover price. Here's a link to their website w/ a search for "Victorian":  http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?follow-pro=1&vwcatalog=doverpublications&catalog=doverpublications&query=victorian    woodwright

Agreed... it's one of my standard "go-to" reference volumes for late 19th century dec arts.  Fortunately, I was trying to avoid doing battle with the Scanner From Hell today, and The Google serendipitously had the MMA page as one of the first search results for "pierpont morgan drawing room".
