This ebay auction reads in part: Carved and curved, Roses and pineapples carved lovingly throughout the frame. I think it is a John Henry Belter(SP?)??) but has no wheels or wood back. I found the identical carving on a website for his work, it was called the "plain" style...…

Is there such a thing as a Belter "plain style?" I did some searches and found nothing.
Yes there is a plain Belter style sometimes referred to as "simplicity" or "scroll" pattern. I have a sofa in that pattern (photo below). The Ebay listing in this thread is not a Belter as Michael states.
Thank you so much for the information and that beautiful sofa picture! I'm just starting to learn about Victorian furniture so that I can furnish my house - at least part of it - with appropriate furniture and there is so little information available. This site and the blogs you link are very helpful.
I'm learning a lot from this board, too -- and I appreciate all the help. Thanks for putting the board together and to all the posters for sharing your thoughts. I check it daily.
