Hi-
I'm posting this since I thought some of you might find it interesting. This is just your typical eastlake arm chair, but what makes it special is the upholstery. I believe it to be all original. I plan on keeping it as is for as long as it will last since it is very fragile. The fabric is velvet and the burgundy/wine color is a cut-velvet with a floral pattern. The gold on the front is plain, while the back has a gold cut-velvet with the same floral pattern. I've never seen the fringe on the chair arm...I think it is a very nice touch. I found this chair at a local antique mall/flea market for the whopping sum of $29! So, naturally, I couldn't pass it up or let someone else buy it and strip the fabric.
Enjoy!

I had a set of chairs with similar fabric that ended up being not original. Not saying that yours is not, but they way we figured it out is to look for old tack holes (in quantity) from original fabric that were not filled by a tack holding down the current fabric. Maybe there is a spot where the fabric is already loose and you can peer around in there.
That's quite an upholstry job, whether it's original or not. If it's not, then it seems unusual that someone would go to such trouble, fringes and all!
In any case, what an excellent find! Congratulations on your bargain hunting skills.

It really is attractive. The upholstery looks pretty original to me. It's the fringe that does it!
