Hi all-
I am just looking for a bit of advice with this one. I've collected victorian for a long time, but I have just your standard variety victorian furniture - nothing that I can attribute to a particular maker. I've always had a desire for a Hunzinger chair, but most were usually WAY out of my price range. But I did find this one and it is at a fairly reasonable price - I think anyway - under $500. I do, however, think the upholstery is awful and it seems that the chair has been painted. What do you all think - should it be bought anyway? At least then I could have my first "named" piece of victorian furniture! Thanks to all!

Well, you're correct, the upholstery IS awful It's certainly not original. I wonder what's under there. Whoever did it was fairly neat with the hob nails. I'm not too sure if it's been painted. If the price is right, I'd go ahead and buy it. You have the right idea and it's a great "name" piece which seems in good, solid condition. The upholstery can always be changed out for something more tasteful and appropriate.
Well, I bought the chair for $365...I hope I didn't make too bad of a purchase - but I love the chair and I can now say that I have a piece of victorian furniture that I can actually attribute to a known maker! :) Now I just need to determine what to do with the upholstery - that needlepoint has got to go!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and weekend!

Thank you for the link! I feel that I made a good purchase - not that I am overly concerned about value, I just tend to buy what appeals to me.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
It's an attractive chair and in good condition. You made a great purchase. The upholstery will be relatively wasy to deal with. Congratulations!
