Hello,
I am new to the site and have enjoyed it very much; thank you.

A friend of mine is liquidating some items and has asked for my help.  Problem is, I'm much more of a textile and pottery/china person.  Although I'd love to learn more about furniture; I can't seem to even distinguish different woods for the life of me.  She has two of these heavily carved chairs.  All I know is that a hefty sum was paid for them in the 90's to a local antique shop which is no longer in business.  I am in Southeastern PA, just outside of Philly; so these will likely either go to a local auctioneer or be sold on ebay.  I'm trying to fulfill the first rule of selling.......know what it is you are selling.

From the little bit of research I've done I'm thinking they are Renaissance Revival.  I don't have the dimensions but can add them as well as more pictures if it helps.  BTW, the 'legs' are a solid apron in the front and back.

Any input would be appreciated. TIA
Kim
P.S. The table seen in the rear of a couple pictures is going too, but will post that separately.

Well....... I have more pictures......but was hoping for some input from here.  Confirmation of style, possible maker?

If no one can help identify the chairs........could anyone suggest further ways to investigate these?
Thank you so much.
Looks to be walnut.  Most probably European and maybe Italian in particular.  Use this search to find lots like yours sold at auction over the years.  I'm thinking late 19th century and ignore those that say 1850s as that is too early.  Renaissance Revival, but naming a maker is likely impossible.

these chairs are selling $200-$400 at auction, possibly more in a retail environment.  This one has the lions too.
Thank you so very much for the input and taking the time to post those links.....it's given me a start.
I was hoping the ribbed egg/cabochon might point to one of the popular American furniture makers......but have been reading how that in itself is not neccessarily a marker for any one company in particular.  At least now I know what I am looking at!!

Again.......thank you so much.
