Dear Rare Victorian Forum,
We acquired this settee/sofa and chair from a couple who bought it decades ago from an antique store in Elizabeth, PA. We have been unable to find any identifying markings on the pieces or to find any information about their history from our own research.
Hopefully, the photos capture the carved details of the arms and feet as well as the thickly piled channels on the back and arms of the pieces. The sofa/sette and chair are identical, except for size.
Any leads will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks sincerely,
(The lucky owners of) Sophie's House
please help identify sofa/sette and chair

Hi Sophieshouse! I just wanted to say what a lovley suite you have. I`m no expert but it looks 1920s to me, a little art deco. Definetly above average!
Hi!
This looks like furniture (very high-end) made in the 1930's by Pullman. I think it is an amazing set and would look great with Victorian furniure.

Thanks "drew49"for the leads!
Do you know of any reference books for Pullman Couch Company where we will find pictures of similar pieces?
Thanks again sincerely,
Sophieshouse

Hi!
Please look at the following links:
This one is a little bit too negative in my opinion, but does share the company's history. I WOULD fix the chair that is pictured in the article.

Here is some general info on Pullman and other Chicago furniture makers. If your set is not labeled Pullman, it could be by Hi-Art Carving.

Here is an ad on eBay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7206617809&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
All of the Deco dealers I used to work with all called these kinds of sets with this type of ornate carving "Pullman Sets." It would be interesting to see if
Karpen made any of these sorts of sets.
As someone who used to look for Deco and 50's stuff, I can tell you that your set is high-end, hard-to-find furniture and it is valuable. I never owned any pieces of this type of furniture, but always hoped to find some.
