Rare Victorian Reference Book?
I saw on the Meeks page that "The Big Book of Antique Furniture" was referenced as a guide for victorian furniture. Is this the best book on the subject, or are there others that people prefer?
Unfortunately I don't think there is a "best book". I have about 15-20 Antique furniture books of which none is the silver bullet and there are many more out there that I don't have. I guess it depends on what you want to have a reference on - a whole book on a particular maker, short bios on many makers with pictures of their furniture, overviews of the various Victorian Furniture styles, a book with a lot of pictures with prices, etc... You won't find all that in one place. Also, some of the books have date ranges that cover furniture outside the Victorian era and either go prior or afterwards, or both, in addition to covering Victorian.
I may put together a reference book list and put it on the site permanently. I hope to have that on the site in a few weeks. Once I get back from this business trip I am on, I'll try to reply again with a few quick hit favorite books that I have and why. In the meantime, the books on the main RareVictorian.com page are some of my favorites. The "Pursuit of Beauty" that is there isn't really a good reference for furniture items, but the others are. Maybe others out there have their favorites lists that they can share as well.

FYI, I have started a more comprehensive list of reference books that you can view here http://rarevictorian.com/VictorianFurnitureBooks.html or via the link from the main RareVictorian.com page. I will be adding more but at least it is a start. I'd be interested if others have favorite books that I haven't added yet.
