Hi everyone-
I've been reading and enjoying the Rare Victorian site for some time, but this is my first post.  I have a few pieces of furniture and I would appreciate any information about them.  For this post, I have this piece that I have referred to as a parlor cabinet, but I am not sure if that is correct.  I believe it to be rosewood, but again I am not sure.  I found the piece on ebay and picked it up for $400.  It was shipped to me from the Las Vegas area.  It has the two lower doors with oval glass panes.  On the inside there is evidence that fabric was attached over the glass so that it obscured what was in the cabinet.  I don't know if that was how it was originally supposed to look, or just something someone added at one point in its history.  It has a nicely carved crest and a drawer above the glass doors.  There was once a paper tag on the back - the two nails that held it in place are still there, but the tag is long gone.  Other than that, I don't know much else about the cabinet, except that I felt pretty lucky to get it.  Thank you for any information or comments that you may have.

Hey Missouri!

Welcome to the boards :)

You have a very nice Rococo revival cabinet that I would put from 1850 to 1860. It looks like flame mahogany to me and it's in really nice condition. It's certainly a piece you can be proud of. Much Empire furniture was made of mahogany and this practice carried over into the rococo period. Yours looks like an early piece that is most likely US made but could possibly be English? Sometimes cloth, usually nicely shirred was used as decoration inside the doors. In any event it's a lovely piece of furniture.
