Just ran into the May 1973 issue of Magazine Antiques.
This was most likely the real deal - Quervelle - and is very similar to photos in this particular issue.
At a $13,000 hammer price, it seems many others agreed with their attribution.

lol, gee wiz, RV being armed with all these issues of The Magazine Antiques is making me jealous. The real deal huh, well, at 13k i say that was a pretty good deal if the piece could be authenticated, Quervelle had no equal in america during the classical period.
