Was at the Steven's auction this weekend in Mississippi---I have been going to auctions for a long time, but have NEVER seen this much high end Belter and Meeks furniture in one place--especially hard to find pieces such as Belter beds and armoires. Good crowds and spirited bidding both on the floor and over the phone and internet.; Highlights that readers may find of interest: Friday night: Meeks Hawkins settee: $11,000. Belter rosewood wardrobe with putti on crest from NY estate: $21,000. American bronze patinated ceiling light with putti from NY estate: $19,000. Saturday: Laminated rosewood Belter bed with custom mattress and cupids on crest: $38,000. Matched pair of Meeks Stanton Hall marble top tables: $44,000 for the pair. Strong pattern Belter sofa mint condition: $21,000. Belter Fountain Elms rosewood sidechair in mint condition: $6,000. Belter rosewood slipper chair in mint condition: $2,900. Pair of Belter rosewood slipper chairs in mint condition: $4,400 for the pair. Strong pattern Belter Meridenne: $13,000. Belter rosewood etagere: $18,000. Roux walnut huntboard: $6,900. Full size Meeks Stanton Hall sofa(not a settee): $5,250. Meeks pierce carved rosewood parlor table: $6,000. Pair of matched vict. walnut MT half commodes: $2,600. Rocco rosewood rolltop desk: $9,750. Mahogany empire banquet table: $7,000. Meeks Stanton Hall meridenne: $12,000 Pair of Roux rosewood armchairs: $5,000 for the pair. Pair of Meeks Stanton Hall sidechairs: $3,000 for the pair. Pair of Roux rosewood sidechairs: $2,800 for the pair. 3 pc. Victorian bedroom suite attr. to Thomas Brooks: $15,000. Hope this gives everyone a flavor of the action at the auction---I managed to leave with nothing--oh well, next time! Charles.
I really wanted to attend this auction myself,I just couldn't break free. Some of the pieces such as the Strong pattern Belter I believe were Lise Bohm. I was interested in the Roux chairs. The prices sound fair, were the chairs in good shape? Thanks for the update.

John, I looked at the Roux chairs extensively the night before they were sold, and I can say that they appeared to all 4 be in almost mint condition--they were absolutely beautiful and I agree-seemed to be very reasonably priced. Charles.
Thanks Charles. I didn't see any bargains in your recap there so I can see how you might have come home empty-handed.
My thoughts exactly on why I came home empty handed! LOL! Charles
