Do you live in the Cinci area? I used to live in Ohio (Dayton grad) and may be visiting there at the time of this auction. Hmm, possibilities ...
Anyway, they aren't Henry Clay. They are some form of variation of Rosalie w/o grapes as you suggested. If you have the book, "American Furniture of the 19th Century" by the Dubrows, you can see these two patterns on opposing pages (96 and 97).
I say variation since there are minor tweaks in the various Rosalie incarnations. See the image below of two crests - one from the lot you are watching and one from another auction going on now as well.
There are variations in the scroll that runs up the side and terminates near the crest; there are variations in the flowers and leaves in the crest. If you see the scroll in the book, it is also different than these two variations as well; it is smooth and bulbous at the end.

Transplanted to Cincinnati 15 yrs. ago from Jacksonville Fl. Thank you for the input. Cowan's Auction generally have nice furniture . Victorian furniture isn't their strongest field. So attrib. & estimates are ussually off the mark. Some deals can be had. They have another lot that appears to be in the oak leaf pattern? If you get the chance stop in.
