Hi all, I bought 2 matching parlor chairs on eBay this week. They're not rare or anything, but I like them! Anyway, here's the crest: The seller called it "Jenny Lind" which it isn't. Anyone have an idea?

Hello TexMac:

I have several pieces with similar carvings to yours and I was also told they were Jenny Lind. What makes you certain that your e-bay chairs are not Jenny Lind?

I will attach the pixs for you to see.

I am betting on Helen of Troy ???  You might want to look at some of the archives from Rare Victorian from just a month or so ago where a lively discussion took place and look into just who the lady might be on Victorian carvings!  Charles
my friend has a set of chairs/sofas with heads on them that are identical to this - the seller was an old old woman, who said the set was her grandmothers and was very very old, said this is Oprah, not Helen of troy.
After reading all the posts I am leaning towards Miss. Columbia. Thank you for your ideas and responses, I will read further about Oprah and other attributions. It will be interesting to figure out who these ladies are.

If  you figure it out, please let me know.  I have a set of chairs with very similar ladies heads and would love to know "who" she is.

Two of the pics Sunny attached do look like what I've always been told by dealers is Jenny Lind, one does not.

I've also read (here and elsewhere) that Jenny's face was used as the model to become famous ladies such as Helen of Troy and others.  Is this true?

I've attached my ladies head just in case anyone will recognize it.

Have a GREAT day!!!
