I need them to tell us why they have unequivocally stated that this is R.J. Horner.  No historical basis as far as I know.  Thanks for the heads up.
This sold for a surprising $6,100.00 - not bad for only a back - imagine if the entire piece had been there. I'm frequently surprised at what nicer architectural/ furniture parts bring (especially when compared to what complete nice furniture brings). The seller certainly talks it up big, but when questioned about what type of wood it is, says it could be oak or mahogany - they really don't know. If they can't tell the difference between oak & mahogany (there's a huge difference visually) - I doubt very seriously they know enough to ascertain that it is Horner for sure either, but like many sellers on ebay - accuracy is not nearly as important as putting a label on it to help pump up the price.  woodwright
Crazy price.  I actually have a gut feel it may be European and not even N.Y., let alone Horner.
LOL, god almity, is a little stunned at the price this brought.
I agree with “Rare Victorian” that this is probably European and I’m willing to even go a step further.  I’m 90% sure this piece is Italian.
