This credenza is a family piece, acquired sometime in the 1960s, but no one seems to know anything about it other than remembering someone mentioning "Victorian" and "East Indian Rosewood." I am interested in knowing everything about it's design, maker, woods used, period or any hints that can be provided, including how to care for it and what it might be worth. I have looked for any markings or signatures and haven't seen any but I honestly do not know where to look.
The dimensions are: 64"W x 42"H x 20"D. It has two beautifully figured and perfectly bookmatched burl wood doors in front with a key lock on the right door. The sides of the cabinet also have matching burl. No drawers. Single cabinet opening from front, with three finished shelves on inside (including bottom/base). I don't know the type of interior wood but it is a bit more yellowish than the pictures indicate, trimmed with a darker wood. The marble top is almost 2 inches thick (and heavy!) and is cut to fit to a conforming case on the top. The inside right door (last photo) has a metal plate behind the lock.
This is a great website! I've spent several hours admiring the beautiful craftsmanship and enjoying the posts. I'm here to learn and would be most grateful for your comments.
