I recently posted a reply to the announcement of a sale of a mis-identified cabinet that was sold by Freeman auctions. Here are a few photos of my cabinet, which is in fine, pristine, original condition. The Pietre Dure inlays are very rare, and fit the motif of the cabinet which show the evolution of a moth and butterfly. This cabinet has extraordinary inlaid marquetry and has marble on the flat, upper surfaces instead of the usual fabric. It was no doubt a special order piece for an important and wealthy client! What is most fascinating, is that it has an original Herter key! The key is identical to the hardware found on Herter cabinets and closely resembles some of the pieces that were made for William H. Vanderbilt. The drawers feature the original, hand written (in pencil) numbers that indicated that the various pieces were supposed to go together. It came out of an Estate in New York City.
The clock shown next to the cabinet is from the Jewelry firm of Baliey, Banks and Biddle in Philadelphia. It is 9 feet tall, features an Elliot movement, Harrington Chimes (9) and is carved from Santo Domingo Mahogany.

Very special cabinet.  Thanks for sharing it with us.
That is one fantastic cabinet. What an incredible find!
Great cabinet. It has all the right Herter elements.
I bought the Freeman cabinet knowing it was Herter.
Paid too much but I needed a project.
We now have over 20 pieces of Herter and another 20 pieces that could be.
Good hunting.
Hi!
This is amazing cabinet and is another example of the genius of the Herter Brothers' creations.
