I've seen this settee listed on eBay a dozen times now and can't get over two things about it. 1. The horrendous extra cushion that someone must have thought was a good idea and 2. the absence of a center medallion (back). Question is, did Jelliff make settees meant to go in front of a window or is this missing the center medallion? When I look at the picture of the back, I think I see a ~6" bump in the center flat spot and two stubs near where the center exposed wood meets the upholstery, but I can't be sure. Any thoughts?
I have been seeing that one a lot too. I think the extra ugly cushion on top was made to hide the botched job they did removing the probably damaged center medallion. Even with the bad pictures it's pretty clear something was removed from the back. That backless design would be totally unpractical as well, unless you put it against a wall, you would lean back on the sofa and fall backwards and land on your head. Victorian sofas were typically not on the wall either but more or less away from it. I have no reason to believe it's Jelliff either although it is in the school of Jelliff. Those arms were made by a manufacturer that sold to many furniture makers.
I would definitely steer away from that thing!

It sure is pretty funny looking. It looks like it would be a balancing act to try and stay seated on the extra cushion they have placed on top. Odd choice of fabric too. Definitely missing the center portion of the back - yes you can see the original points of attachment. Very unnatural looking. Not surprising it hasn't sold yet.
