I have a couple of "Turkish Revival" pieces of furniture, including the settee shown here. I picked this up on ebay a few years ago for $200, at which time a large dog was apparently living inside of the thing. Anyway, I had it reupholstered as per what remained of the original covering. I had been looking for a Turkish settee for a long time and I'm happy with the finished product.
In my opinion, this settee is American & made around 1880. I'm wondering if anybody out there has seen one like it...perhaps in a catalog reprint or some such thing. This settee came out of a barn in PA, so I would guess that it was made somewhere out in RareVictorian territory.
I also have a number of Turkish-upholstered chairs...I'll see if I can't post pics of two of those too. One is a little corner chair, probably 1880-ish again ($50 ebay). It has the same casters as the settee. The fringe around the arms doesn't quite suit me, but it was another cheap ebay find (that did not require immediate upholstery). The other chair is a rocking chair, probably 1895-ish, that was originally covered with black oil-cloth ($99 ebay). Again, perhaps someone has seen these in a catalog somewhere? I have some other chairs, but they are covered in boxes right now what with Christmas decorating.
I suspect that these might look good next to some Moorish Fretwork too :-) .
I'd appreciate any thoughts that you might have.
Thank you,
Jason

Just a bit bored here, so I thought that I might post a quick pic of why I miss the upholstery guy who was in town for less than a year. This is a "before" glimpse of the settee...

I have a couple of turkish pieces as well. I have no idea who may have made the rocker but I think it's american. I picked it up at a country auction in California for $400 with the existing good condition upholstery on it. It's amazing how similar the color scheme is to 1881victorian's rocker.
Awesome rocker! ...and quite the bargain at $400. I picked up mine for $99 (junked out with old 'oil cloth' upholstery)...then dumped another $700 or so into the re-upholstery. We just kinda sorta randomly picked the red & gold fabric...seemed like a good idea at the time...we are still happy with the selection.
Anyway, you found a "good buy"!
