Perhaps having been so helpful with the wash stand, someone could give me info on this piece which I recently purchased at auction. It is made of walnut.
Thank you.

Hi & welcome to the board. Eastlake, third quarter 19th century, walnut desk /bookcase.
Great! Thanks for the info. I love the piece.
yeah, eastlake is what started my collecting furniture many moons ago. Eastlake was a british architect who published a book which started a furniture movement known for a clean, straight foward look with low relief carving and incised lines. Check out rare victorian's blog as i believe theres a link somewhere on the site which gives a detailed description of this style of furniture.

Yes, the Eastlake info is here.
Great- I'll check out the site. The wife and I have gone a bit Eastlake crazy of late.
Thanks very much.
Thanks very much.
If you've gone Eastlake crazy lately, make sure you read up on the Aesthetic Movement and you may find yourself buying more.
